Working towards building an innovative entrepreneurship ecosystem: SA

BASIS President and General Partner of Fenox Venture Capital Shameem Ahasan said, main objective of arranging Seedstars World is to provide the young entrepreneurs with a platform for global innovation including Silicon Valley, and successful international expansion of their companies. BASIS has been working towards building an innovative entrepreneurship ecosystem in Bangladesh in coordination with its partner companies including Fenox Venture Capital and Seedstars. We aim to help the winners of this competition developing the next Google and Facebook from Bangladesh.

He was present at the prize giving ceremony of the Dhaka leg of global Seedstars World competition as the Chief Guest on Saturday.

The program was also attended by Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Christian Martin Fotsch, Dhaka chapter Director of Founder Institute Sajid Rahman, Co-founder of Newscred Iraj Islam, ITC Senior Officer Martin Labbe, Managing Director of BD Venture Limited Shawkat Hossain among others.
The competition is being held for the past few years at the global level to provide supports to seed-level startup companies. This year Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Seedstars World have organized the competition for the first time in Bangladesh. The initiative is powered by International Trade Center of United Nation and BD Venture Limited, and activated by Betterstories Ltd. and Preneurlab.

A three-day bootcamp was organized from 12 November to compete at the international-level final Seedstars Summit. Over the course of the program, winners of Bangladesh-level were announced and awarded on Saturday (14 November) at 2.00 PM.

Seedstars World competition was focus on three major tracks FinTech, TravelTech and StarTech. On Saturday, 17 startups were pitched against each other in local-level competition final. The winner of the Dhaka leg of global Seedstars World competition is Madviser. They will go to Switzerland and Silicon Valley to get training on business. Team Evolysis won BD Venture’s cash award of 50,000 BDT. Shopfront won a tour to Europe to build their business. Another startup Pathao won a free entry to Founders Institute. Tech Cafe won the Swiss Embassy Award.The winner organization will be invited to the global Seedstars World final to be held in Switzerland next year. The competition has USD 500K equity prize for its winner. Various other prizes can be won outside the tracks such as the Space Prize, a USD 50k grant awarded by Inmarsat and AP-Swiss.
